• Fourth Grade: Kingsley Farm School

  Fourth Grade students visit Red Gate Farm in Ashfield, MA in the spring. Students feed farm animals, plant seedlings and crops, irrigate fields, and build hiking trails. They are immersed in the operation of a working farm while exploring projects integrated with Kingsley’s curriculum. Fourth Grade students explore the world of horticulture, botany, and agriculture through the application of science, math, visual and performing arts, reading, writing, and research skills.

• Fifth Grade: Ocean School

  Students participating in the Ocean School program have the opportunity to explore nautically themed science, math, history, and literature units culminating in a three-day trip to the Ship to Shore program in Mystic, CT. Students engage in hands-on design challenges, learn about the local history and importance of sailing and fishing in New England, and develop cartography skills by learning how early sailors found their way without modern technology. They delve into the topic of climate change and how it could affect our local shoreline and the global impact that rising sea levels could have for the world community. Students research cultures that continue to rely on the sea for economic sustainability and the impact that climatic and economic shifts have on these cultures. Upon completing the Ocean School program at Kingsley, students have a deep understanding of the economic and scientific impact that the sailing industry has had on not only our local New England community, but on a global scale as well.

• Sixth Grade: Montessori Model United Nations

  By participating in the Montessori Model United Nations (MMUN), students develop an understanding of the function and procedures of the United Nations, explore global issues, and learn about social activism. Most often, Sixth Grade students travel to New York City and experience debating, public speaking, negotiating, analytical thinking, and conflict resolution.
